Paanch Bar Saal vs. Life Dedication

Post by salman19 »

What is the difference between Paanch Bar Saal and *****? From my understanding, both majilis are for serving the Imam of the Time (whether it is for 5-12 years or for life).  But, if one is a member of Paanch Bar Saal and attends his/her entire life, is that not the same? Basically, I dont understand why we have both and not just one ?

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It is the level of commitment & the essence & spirit behind this symbolic gesture.

Since money is not a significant part (in Western countries) we seem to have lost the true meaning behind this Mandlis.

To remember back, when joining 5-12 mandli, we actually, physically make a commitment to serve the household, army, institutions of the Imam for 5-12 years i.e. we actually make a commitment to give up other worldly activities and serve the Imam only.

And so it is for life mandli.

However in present circumstances (as Hazar Imam often said in His Farmans) we cannot all live physically with the Imam and serve Him. So He accepts our symbolic commitment.

YAM

i would like to addon you the info. it was i believe Hazrat Imam Mustansirbillah who when migrated people of the new town offered Maula their services as servant n all. Imam rather suggested them to offer khidmat n asked them to pay an amount which we pay today for panch bara saal majlis. n they were enrolled for the majlis as guided by imam as form of khimat(Seva) for 5 yrs. on completion of 5 years the jamat went to Imam again n asked for more khidmat on which the period was extended. after completion of 12 yrs another service today recognized as life dedication was introduced. jamat practiced this new service to imam n demanded for higher responsibilities n hence bandagi was provided as part of the majlis.

i look fwd to effective corrections.
