No heart feelings yeah! Just been thoughtful.
Ismailis as in India/Pakistan do not wear hijab because the culture over there doesn't force them to wear it. The same goes for Western countries. Do you know what Ismailis wear in many other parts of of the world?

Can you tell me where in Qur'an Allah asks Muslims to wear Hijab?

If I was born and grew up in Rome then I'm not just "there" in Rome. Are you telling me that I can't be a Muslim if I was born and raised in Rome? And what reasons I have to adopt the Arab culture if I was born and raised in Rome. BTW, the Hijab was not first found in Arab culture and some of the Muslims were not the first one to adopt it for themselves.
My point exactly.. I hate these people that judge. Find me a reference in The Holy Quran that states women must were Hijabs. All it say is that women and men must dress conservatively. And from what I see, most Ismailis do dress conservatively. There is the minority that does not, however that goes in every sect of Islam.

I am an Ismaili. At one time in youth (long ago) I think the same way that Ismailis are half hindu and half muslim, ie backward muslims, and Agakhan is a progressive muslim and convert them to Islam. Today, I understand better.

But the fact is that even if hijab is required, the outside world wont let us. The non-Ismaili muslims themselves are having such a hard time practising hijab. Many of their own sunni brothers have given up hijab. A year ago, I saw a saudi woman in above knee skirt. Most Ismaili women wear long skirts and jeans that is a lot more decent than that saudi woman. Sunni and Shia women who are working do not wear any hijab. They have retained the theory, but dont practise. We have softened the theory and the practice is consistent. And whose stupidity led to the downfall of the muslim world? Imam Sultan Mahomad Shah in his memoirs writes clearly that the Sunni Turkish Khalifah, a chain smoker, made the stupid mistake of allying with Germany in WW1 and that led to the disintegration of Khilafa, and the emergence of petty arab states. Just show them their history, their own people's inconsistency ... politely.

My personal policy is that of Mawlana Hazar Imam. If I am with non-Ismaili muslims and they have purdah of their women, or leave in my presence, I respect that. I may emphasize my respect with the use of word "sister" or "khala". You have to learn how to display your inner sincerity. If I am with non-muslims, I have other manner. We have to learn how to switch between the two at will, like the Mawla does it. I still have to learn more the art of doing that. If any of you brother may indicate that to me, a chela needs a guru/garanth.

On the other hand, I want to remind again and again about 911, which is the false pretext designed specifically to accelerate the persecution of muslims and limit our choices of normal behaviour. We must work hard to convey to more and more people the fact that it was a controlled demolition. The american workplace is very autocratic, muslims are specifically discriminated. I am an engineer and seek other ismailis for cooperative enterprise. I have a number of ideas and experience. I like to meet people in person.

An example of one of the people that I am talking about it here:

http://www.xanga.com/home.aspx?user=fckakhan

*For those of you who don't know what a Xanga is, it is an online diary type thing. Anyone can read it and leave a comment if they desire.

This girl is really opposed to Ismailism and she believes that we are not "true" Muslims partly because we don't wear a hijab. She has also made numerous comments that Ismaili's are kaffirs! She also has many other misunderstandings about Ismailism. I, along with many other people, have tried explaining to her that what she believes is wrong, but she just doesn't understand. Can someone PLEASE try and explain to this girl that she is wrong with sufficient information? I have been reading the posts on these forums for a really long time now and many of the people who reply a lot know what they are talking about. Please help her! Thank you so much.

those who bash ismailis must be insecure about their own religious beliefs if they have to resort to telling other muslims how to live and rubbing how 'unorthodox' we are. It's not our fault Sunnis take everything literally and were misled by khalifs at the time of the Prophet and Mawlana Ali. Some of them take great pleasure in pointing out that we should not wear fitted clothes, not listen to music, not show skin even if it's just a t shirt or v neck sweater, not own a pet and all this garbage that is not even stated in the quran literally! In my opinion they are mislead but I'm not going to go up to them, call them out for it or tell them they are less of a muslim than I am. It's up to Allah to judge and if they succeed in this life their soul will eventually be reborn as Ismaili inshallah.

Ya Ali Madad...i was just browsing through the internet and ismaili website...i have read alot about ismaili's being wrong and not a part of Islam...i am a open minded person and proud to be an ismaili...this is for the individuals who have doubts about us...when you read the Quran everyone Interprets it differently and has their own understanding...the quran is given to guide you through in life and you are the one who has to decide on which path to go on...Secondly the people who think Ismaili's arn't a part of Islam i wanted to say this: In order to understand a person or thier religion you have to let go your personal views and feel what they feel also understand where they came from... yelling out whos right and whos wrong doesnt accomplish anything but only developes anger to one another. No one has the right to criticize any religion or any individual. thanks for hearing me out. Ya Ali Madad.
