Al vs ahl

Post by ONiazi »

Ya Ali madad wa assalamu aleikum!

What's the difference in Arabic between "al" and "ahl"?

I read about Ahlul Bayt, but the salwat says "wa ale Muhammad" instead of "wa ahle Muhammad".

Thanks!

Allah hafiz

Ale means from the generations of, specifically from the daughters children.

Ahlul Bayt means People of the House (Bayt=house) As per hadith it included only Panjtan Pak and rare others who attained that level like Salman Farsi.

The word "AL" used before any word or name to whom we like to give him due respect or with the name of King. Just like for all our Imam Of Fatmid era, we put "AL". Like Al-Mehdi, AL-Qaim, Al-Mansoor. For Holy Quran, we say Al-Kitab.

The word "Ahle" means one who follow or one belongs to or people. Just like "Ahle Kitab" means those who follow or beleive in any or all four sacred books, i,e Torah, Zabuur, Bible and Quran.
