Duniya preet nav kiji ye

Eji Duniyaa prit na kijie,
ane raakho dinsun neh;
duniyaa din chaar chhe,
ane din na deve chheh 1

O momins! Do not love the world and have love for religion. The world is there for four days (is fleeting), and religion does not deceive or there is no limit to religion.

Eji Sansaarmaa ek man kijie,
temaa na kijie bharaant;
jap tap satnu kijie,
to saahebsun hove ekaant 2

O momins! In this world be firm and single minded and have no doubts about it. Perform prayers and supplications of truth, then you will be one with the Imam.

Eji Manmahen mindar chanaaviye
ane manmaahe sarve kuchh jaan
manni maalaa pherie
ane mansun puj parman 3

O momins! Make your heart the abode of the Lord, and understand that everything is within the heart. Say the rosery of the heart, worship the Lord from the heart.

Eji Manmaa deval jaanniye,
ane manmaa ghatt parmaann;
manmaa kunbhni pujaa kijie,
to Satgur bhettiyaa jaann 4

O momins! Know that the Lord is in the heart, and in the heart is the true Ghat (bowl). Perform the worship of the kumbh (ghat paat rituals) in the heart, then it would be as if the True Guide has embraced you.

Eji Jaaher manddhi baandhiye,
ane manmaanhe vasaaiye vaas;
sati silvantaa aavi male,
pure man ni aas 5

O momins! Build a place of worship which is apparent and make a place for it in the heart. The pure and saintly ones will come and meet and the hopes of the heart will be fulfilled.

Eji Sati silvantaa te kahiye,
jenu saahebjisun dhiyaan,
te sati saachaa kahiye,
jene haiye harkh ne maan 6

O momins! The pure saintly ones are those whose attention and thought is towards the Imam. A saint is to be considered true, whose heart is happy and dignified.

Eji Aashaa teni puri padde,
ane puri Gurni vaach;
man ichhaa teni thai,
jugmaa chaali saankh 7

O momins! His hopes have been fulfilled and the promise of the Guide is fulfilled. Whatever was desired in the heart has been fulfilled and the proof is established in the world (through enlightened action)

Eji Nar naari ek chhe,
ane vali jujvaa chhe ghatt;
haalo chaalo ek chhe,
sahu dharamni vaatt 8

O momins! Men and women are one (equal) and there is no difference in their interiors (hearts). On the path of religion the mode of action is the same.

Eji Avichal raaj paamiye,
vali ek mane karie jaanp;
to aagal paadshaahi bhogave,
Gur Shams kahe aapohi aap 9

O momins! Attain the everlasting kingdom and perform single minded remembrance. Then ahead you will experience kingship. Pir Shams speaks spontaneously.

Another version:

Eji Sahu satne maarge chaaljo
Pir Shams kahe saachi sankh
Dasond dan gurnukhe aalsho
to tiyaa male eknaa savaa laakh 9

O momins! Everyone proceed along the path of truth. Peer Shams bears true evidence. If you will give the charity of the tithe to the Guide, then ahead you will attain 125,000 times the amount given.

**********
Ved vachan gur tanna

Eji Ved vachan Gur tanna,
te samjo saachaa soi;
saach vinaa nahi aavse,
kuddaa na paave koi 1

O momins! Understand as truth the scriptural speech of the Guide. Without the truth he will not come and the wicked ones do not attain anyone.

Eji Kudde Shaah na paayaa,
vali saachaa Satgur jaann;
ved vachan Satgur tannaa,
te ride raakho parmaann 2

O momins!The wicked ones did not attain the Imam, whereas the truthful ones understood the True Guide. Firmly retain the scriptural guidance of the True Guide in your hearts.

Eji Kahiyaa Gurjinaa maane nahi,
ane na maane keni vaat;
te eklaa rehese vegalaa,
Gurji nahi sangaat 3

O momins!They do not heed to the words of the Guide and indeed do not follow any other advice. They will remain alone neglected without the Guides company.

Eji Jamaat gatt thaapnaa kare,
tiyaan anek jiv male sansaar;
tiyaan koek Narne jaannse,
baaki sarve duniyaa vevaar 4

O momins!Where the Jamat establishes the Ghat Paat ceremony, there numerous souls meet. There only a few recognize the Imam, the rest are tied up with wordly matters.

Eji Naat vevaare sahu male,
ane na jaanne sat-ni vaat;
paaval piye sahu sarkhaa,
pann Gurni na jaane dhaat 5

O momins!All meet their friends and relatives while not understanding the matters of truth. All of them partake of the Abe Safa in the same manner, but do not know the essence of the Guide

Eji Gatt pujaa koi virlaa jaannese,
ane kunbh jalno chhe naam;
visav kunvaari aavi pise,
parnne tribhovar shaam 6

O momins!Only a few courageous ones know the worship of the Gat Paat ceremony and what the significance of the pot (kumb) is. The virgin of the universe (the purified soul) will come and drink and weds the Lord of the three worlds (obtains the deedar) as a result.

Eji Bibi Fatmaa te kahiye,
vali visav kuaari jaann;
Shaah farmaane gatt thaapiyaa,
bhanne Pir Shamsdin nirvaann 7

O momins!We regard Hazart Bibi Fatima as the virgin of the universe. Pir Shams teaches with conviction that the Ghat Paat was established by the command of the Imam.

E viraa maaraa dhan putr maayaa sarve kaarmi

E viraa maaraa
dhan putr maayaa sarve kaarmi kahiye,
aave hukam sarve meli ne jaay 1

O my courageous ones!
Wealth, sons, and the illusory existence are fraught with insecurity, for when the call (of death) will come, you will leave behind everything.

E viraa maaraa
koi na kahe aa-jiv maaro maaro,
kaaddo kaaddo lai chakale utaaro 2

O my courageous ones!
No one will claim that this soul is mine, (instead they will say): take him, take him away to the courtyard.

E viraa maaraa
lok kutumb sarve miliyo sansaar,
kaavdd upaddi lai gayaa masaann minjaar 3

O my courageous ones!
Family members , relatives and the entire world gathered. They carried the corpse and took it to the graveyard

E viraa maaraa
ek ne baare ane ek ne daatte,
bhango sabhandh koi na aave jivaddaa ne saathe 4

O my courageous ones!
They cremate one and they bury the other. The relationship is severed and no one accompanies the soul.

E viraa maaraa
sukrit pun jo kije haath,
to ant kaale aave jivddaa ne saath 5

O my courageous ones!
If you perform sukreet (good deeds) with your own hands, then they will accompany you in your final moment.

E viraa maaraa
Sat Gur pujo to bahu fal lahiye,
imaan salaamat Shaah ji sun miliye 6

O my courageous ones!
If you devote yourselves to the True Guide, you will attain abundant fruit. You will then meet the Imam through secure faith.

E viraa maaraa
Shaah ji ne miliyaanu e chhe endhaann,
ghirbhaavaas ni vaachaa paaro to chhutto
chaare hi khaann 7

O my courageous ones!
This is the sign of meeting the Imam. If you fulfill the promise made when you were in the womb, you will be freed from the four stages of evolution.

E viraa maaraa
Ghirbhaavaas ni vaachaa jo tame paalo,
to lobh savaarath hirsaj vaaro 8

O my courageous ones!
If you wish to fulfill the promise made during your stay in the womb, then abandon the greed and selfishness and the pleasures of this world.

E viraa maaraa
Kaall, krodh, ahunkaar na kije,

O courageous ones! First of all, serve/worship the Gurnar (the Imam), through which all your sins will be rendered remote. The 84 lacks of cycles will be eliminated if one embraces the Light of Satgur (True Guide).

jaare hotaa dhandhukaar;
par-jaathi paylaa paydaa kiyaa
Gur Bhramaa ji nu avtaar 2

O courageous ones! From the Light, the Satgur (the True Guide) manifested, when there only void and darkness. Before the creation he created the manifestation of Gur Bhramaa (the Divine Guide).

O courageous ones! You have attained the Satpanth (the True Path) through true devotion. But the ones who did not love the Imam - those who were destined for hell, will never go to heaven.

I think the Ginan you are looking for is:

Hame umaaya ne kaaym paaya

Hame umaayaa ne kaayam paayaa;
saami raajaa adal karaavengo ji 1

http://ismaili.net/heritage/node/3639

If you know a word or phrase of a Ginan, then you can look for the Ginan by going to:

Search Ginan Texts
http://ismaili.net/heritage/ginan_view?page=4

Then type the word - Adal for example, in the Text Box and then hit the search button. You will get a list of all Ginans which have that word.

Eji Paarasmanni Gur-e momin ne didhi,
ane tiyaan anddhaaraa kem hoy ji;

Saachaare saanhin kun nish din sirevo

Eji Saachaa re saahiaa kun nis din srevo,
vivek vichaar dil maanhe levo
vivek vichaar to jadde,
jo purann hove bhaag re
jo man chaa-o piyaa ji sun;
to ginaan dhrshtte jaag re ji 1

O momins! Always be devoted to the true Lord, retain disciplined thoughts in your hearts. Disciplined thoughts become integral if good fortune of the past prevails. If you desire the Beloved in your hearts, then be awake to the vision of the Ginans.

Eji Purann bhaage haare pirit-j hove,
bharme bhuli haare duniyaa jove;
bharme bhulaa so bhame
eh to juthaa karam bhandhaann re;
kaayaa kampe chaturaasi,
jene rahe man ni taannre ji 2

o momins! Only love prevails due to the good fortune of the past, but the ones who have forgotten due to ignorance, only see the world and they are bound by false karma. Their bodies wander in all directions, those who are tempted by the lower mind.

Eji Taann na mele murak andhaa,
naayanndde na suje re sat kaa dhandhaa;
dhandhaa sat kaa kiji ye,
to prem Gur rahenni mile;
sakal suje sehej maanhe
to timar dehi naa ttle ji 3

O momins! The foolish and the blind do not forsake the temptations, and their eyes cannot see truthful dealings. Perform truthful dealings, then you will get a loving guide in the Night. If that happens everything worthwhile is inspired and the poison of the being is removed.

Eji Dil maanhe kaayam dev-j jaanno,
Ishvar, Bhramaa madhe pavan vakhaanno;
pavan premi saach hay
tenu lakhsha Sat Gur dil vase;
te bhaave preme aavi mile,
to vikhe dehi naa dur thaashe ji 4

O momins! (When the poison is removed), then only the Everliving Lord prevails in the heart. Then praise Ishvar (the Imam) and Bhrama (the Pir) when the wind (of love) arises. The wind (of love) of the lover is true, and he desires the True Guide in his heart. If such a love is attained through good fortune, then the poison of the body will be rendered remote.

Eji Sat Gur charanne re jaagataa rahiye,
ginaan vachan maanhe chint-j dai-ye;
chint da-i ye ginaan maanhe,
to ttale choraasi khaann re;
tantav padh nishtte kare,
so sahi Gur paramaanne re ji 5

O momins! Remain awake at the feet of the True Guide, and give your full attention to the Ginans and farmans. Focus your attention on the Ginans, then you will be freed from the 84 stages of creation. He attains the path leading to the Essence for certain, and it is indeed through the grace/blessings of the Guide.

Eji Partak ugiyo gagan re bhaann,
tem sanchraa chaar maanhe hari parmaann;
sanchraa char viyaapi rahi ye,
tame kenu ma karsho uvekh-re,
tame jene hindo kholtaa,
tene pargatt deh maanhe dekh re ji 6

O momins! As the sun rises and shines over the solar system, in the same manner God is manifest in this world. He is indeed present everywhere and in everything in this universe, therefore do not hate anyone. The one whom you are seeking while roaming around, know him to be manifest in your body.

Eji Pargatt pekheyaa tain-yej jaanno,
vikhe vivaad ginaan ne ma-aanno;
ginaan maanhe to saaheb chhe,
te deh vise chhe raaj re;
Nar-ne pirsaade Miraa bhanne Sayyed Khaan,
te miliyaa muj ne aaj re ji 7

O momins! You will only attain the realization of him being manifest in your body when you do not oppose the teachings of the Ginans. For in the Ginans the Imam is present, the one who rules over matters pertaining to the body. Through the blessings of the Imam, Sayyed Khan teaches: I have attained that Lord today.

Aanand aanand kariyo rikhisaro

The Ginan Gist

The first verse of the Ginan conveys a sense of happiness for the recognition of the Iman and is therefore recited on happy and festive occasions such as Imamat Day, birthday of Hazar Imam, Navroz, Idd etc. It is normally recited as Ghatpaat standing (ubho) Ginan during the partaking of niaz or abe-shifa but can be recited on other times and occasions as well.

It reminds us of our key and fundamental concepts and values such as the uniqueness and the role of the institution of Imamat, working in unity, collaborating and building bridges with others, charity, ethics, constant vigilance and protecting oneself against the forces of materialism.

Translation and transliteration

Eji Aanand aanand kariyo rikhisaro
Awal Shah tame paayaa....1

O momins! Rejoice rejoice o believers, for you have attained the First Imam.

Comment: The First Imam signifies that the institution of Imamat is permanent and original from the beginning in a continued and uninterrupted hereditary lineage.

Today we have a proliferation of mystical sects across faiths centred on a guide or a master to meet the needs for personal search and spiritual enlightenment. For example in Islam we have Sufi tariqahs centred on a mursheed. However unlike our tariqah the succession of mursheeds is not based on heredity but rather upon the appointment either by the predecessor or consensus of the respective tariqahs. Some traditions are temporary and last for a few generations and others are more enduring. In fact most if not all the chains of succession (silsilas) lead to Hazarat Aly, the first Imam of the present cycle. He is considered the Pole (Qutb).

Eji Milo ne milaavo rikhisaro
Milk kari kariyo kamaai.....2

O momins! Meet and collaborate with others o believers. Having met thus, perform rewarding deeds.

Comment: This verse emphasizes unity within the Jamat and building bridges and collaborating with others to achieve common objectives such as building civil societies and alleviation of poverty.

The concept Imamat and unity mentioned in verses 1 and 2 above are reflected in the Holy Qur’an (3:103):

And hold fast, all of you together, to the rope of Allah, and do not separate. And remember Allah's favour unto you: How ye were enemies and He made friendship between your hearts so that ye became as brothers by His grace; and (how) ye were upon the brink of an abyss of fire, and He did save you from it.

Eji Jampudip maahen Shaah maaro parvariyo;
ke rikhisar ne gher vadhaayun 3

O momins! In the Indian subcontinent the Imam has arrived. Therefore the homes of the believers are to be congratulated.

Comment: Historically the Imamat did not arrive from India to the Indian subcontinent until around the middle of the 19th century AD about five centuries after the Ginan was composed. The arrival of the Imam alluded to in the verse implies that Imamat became known and recognized by the wider society due to the activities of the Pirs and the Jamat. Hence the believers are congratulated for making Imamat known to the wider society.

Today the institution of Imamat is known around the world through the work of the Jamat and its institutions such as the Jamatkhanas and AKDN.

Eji Rikhisaro ne Shaah maaro ugaarshe;
ne karanni tannaa fal dese 4

O momins! My Imam will liberate the believers and will grant them the fruits of their good deeds.

Eji Diyo dasond avtaar dhiyaavo;
to enne kartave jivddo chute 5

O momins! Submit the Dasond and be devoted to the Manifestation. Through such action your souls will be freed.

Comment: The concept of the Imam being the Manifestation of God is mentioned in the Holy Qur’an (4:174):

O mankind! A proof has now come to you from your Lord. We have sent down to you a manifest light.

Eji Vikhaddi velaa maanhe panth katthan chhe;
ke aaviyaa aagam endhaann 6

O momins! In the difficult times, the path is arduous. You have been forewarned about it.

Holy Qur’an (3:186):
You shall surely be tried in your possessions and your selves, and you shall hear from those who were given the Book before you, and from those who are idolaters, much hurt; but if you are patient and godfearing -- surely that is true constancy.

Eji Bhanne Pir Sadardin Satgur Bhirmaa;
tame cheto te chetanhaar 7

O momins! Pir Sadardeen the True Divine Guide teaches: exercise continuous vigilance o vigilant ones.
