A Hindu marrying an Ismaili
A Hindu marrying an Ismaili
YAM everyone,
I have an Ismaili friend that just told me she was going to marry a Hindu guy. I am worried for her as she will definitly face challenges. He is not asking her to comvert and respects her faith. They both plan to practise their own faiths.
I am not sure if the wedding can take place in Khane because he is not Ismaili. Any information and advice I can provide her would be most helpful.
Do you know of any Hindu & Ismaili unions?

Intermarriage
YAM,
Obviously your friend is a mature adult and she knew quite well what she was getting into when she got involved with the person. I am not sure whether there is anything you can do to reverse her decision. If that is the case, than the best advice would be to wish her well. On an optimistic side, we have known cases were the Ismailis have been able to persuade their spouses to become Ismailis. I hope that can happen in this case. Else if they can have an agreement on how to raise children that is mutually acceptable.

yam.
first of all, it is great that the guy is not forcing her to change religions or anything. She can continue to practice her faith and the guy might practice his. However, in the future some problems might arise...starting with the wedding ceremony and how it should be celebrated.Other problems might include with their future children. I think that there will always be debate over which religion their children wish to follow. I wish your friend all the best in her life and hope that everything works out.

well every man and women in thisworld have right to live their own life , and all have freedom to take their own decision-- well marrying with hindu or muslim is not the issue , but the real purpose of the marraige is to marry with right person,
btw who is Ahlkitab---may i know......well i do have many muslim friends married to hindu.Sooper wrote:Marrying Hindu is I think not allowed in Islam .. you can only marry a Ahl kitab and the Ahl kitab who considers Allah as a supreme authority ..

All i know is in order to have the hindu ceremony she is going to have to renounce her ismaili faith..just the act of the ceremony will result in her voluntary revocation of the baiyat....Dost wrote:YAM everyone,

Are you serious? I know that some Ismailis in North America are marrying in hotels instead of JKs so they can have the traditional Indian style wedding, now banned in JKs.
Whether they are also marrying in JK to make the marriage officially Ismaili, I don't know.

In India nowadays the marriages between Hindus and Muslims is becomming very common. There are many examples among most popular, the wife of most popular bollywood star Shahrukh Khan is hindu. Similarly the wife of another most famous actor Hrithik Roshan who is Hndu, is a Muslim. There are many bollywood movies promoting marriages among hindus and muslims for example Gadar..ek prem katha,Mission Kashmir etc
However,I am not sure that Is it allowed in Ismailism [and other sects of Islam] or not. There different opinions of different people in this regard.

This time I agree with what Sooper wrote that Nowadays ! These days ! These two words have no importance ..
My friend, Islam will not change for u .. u have to change yourself for Islam.
Anotherthing What I wrote in my previous post was not to justify it whether it is right or wrong as I wrote I am not sure that Is it allowed in Ismailism [and other sects of Islam] or not. There different opinions of different people in this regard. However I have read in a book that a muslim can marry only with another muslim, christian or jew.

Isn't marrying an hindu another way of accepting idol worshipping.
Because if the hindu partner does not change the faith then there are idols in the house.
How would the child accept the idols to be god and then believe in one god who is not seen......its brain damaging.....i hardly doubt it that such marriages can work....and if they do then the only possibility is that both forget about religion.
And basically accepting idol worshiping to be okay just for the sake of love for another man/women shows how much you love god and his prophets because all the great work and hardships the prophets took to convey the message of oneness of god.....you have just put them to waste.......and have basically made your soul travel back in time........

I think the various idols used by Hindus are not meant to be objects of worship, rather they are symbols of various aspects of Divinity which have particular significance to them. For example, if strength is sought than they focus their devotion to a symbol which reflects that strength aspect of Divinity.sheri wrote:Isn't marrying an hindu another way of accepting idol worshipping.
