Interfaith Children

Post by canadiangirl28 »

Hello,

I have a question I am hoping some of you may be able to help me with. Can a child be raised half Ismaili if only one parent is Ismaili? Does the child have to be given an Islamic name? What is the procedure for children from mixed marriages?

Thanks in advance.

hey hope you are well.

A/c to me there is no such thing as half ismaili. If you have a diesel car you dont put petrol (you can if you wish but it wont go far)

Islamic names are important only if your child is an ismaili muslim.Again you cannot have half ismaili muslim and half other. The reason is that islam does not allow its absorption into other societies. As it is a way of life itself. Like it or not Islam has the great tendency to live in complete peace with other societies but does not allow to be absorbed. Because there are so well defined boundries.

A lil suggestion.I dont wana make your life difficult by sayin this but i think you can give your child complete indepedence and let him choose when he is mature.

By the way a child born from ismaili mother does nt automatically become ismaili..The child takes the baiyat. and when that happens your child is ismaili. not half ismaili.

Ismailism comes as a whole package, there is no pick and choose. It is based on love for the Imam, there is no such thing as half love. Either the tenets of Ismailis are accepted or people can leave the faith in all liberty.

They can not change or accept few tenets and reject few others. As for the name, it gives the identity I believe.
