Meaning of Soul
Can someone advice me on how I can explain the concept of soul to second graders in religious education center? What is the meaning of soul? What is soul?
Soul
"Islamic doctrine goes further than the other great religions, for it proclaims the presence of the soul, perhaps minute but nevertheless existing in an embryonic state, in all existence in matter, in animals, trees, and space itself. Every individual, every molecule, every atom has its own spiritual relationship with the All-Powerful Soul of God."
The above is the definition of the soul stated by Mowlana Sultan Muhammad Shah in his memoirs. It can be construed and interpreted in many ways depending upon the level of an individual. Some examples would be:
Soul is a part of God in everything.
Soul is a ray of Divine Light in everything.
Soul is a spark of divinity in everything.
Soul is the locus of the relationship between God and a part of her creation. It's complexity varies according to the complexity of the part of creation. In space it would be simple whereas in man it would be complex. In man the soul is like a battleground of right and wrong. If he behaves according to Firmans he moves to God and becomes happy. If he misbehaves he suffers and becomes unhappy. A man's soul is different than the soul of other creatures in that it provides that choice of right and wrong behaviour.
