could be
Mowla is the spiritual doctor as well
there are anecdotes about a man who was so sick and had cancer
and he asked Mowla what prescription to take and he took it and
he was healed within a certain amount of time, while the other
NON-ismaili took it but wasn't healed. It's all about love and recognition
of the Imam. If the Imam desires to punish you in that way he will
i'm not saying he would do it purposely, some people are just born
with it but he would to test us.

Diseases MSM
In my opinion trials and tribulations of which diseases are a facet, are sent to us to test, purify, teach, elevate and strengthen us. I do not believe that Allah, the most compassionate and merciful would punish us. Every person has to go through them. This being the case how can we be happy inspite of them. In esoteric traditions we could rise above all these issues without being affected by them through Ibaadat (in its broadest sense which includes seva). MSM through an example of his life explains this in his memoirs(pg 307) as under.
A mind that is occupied in health or in sickness, with things outside itself and its own concerns, is I believe a perpetual source of true happiness.
In recent years, since the end of the Second World War, I have had a great deal of illness-enough, I suppose, in its content as in its prolongation in time, to have depressed me. I have undergone three major internal operations, two of them with what is ordinarily considered a fifty-fifty chance of survival. I have been laid low for months with severe heart trouble. Yet I have never been depressed. I can honestly say that my mind has constantly been occupied with things outside myself.

Dear KMaherali, may Mawla bless you with deep fortitude to overcome your physical difficulties and bless you with continued strength of Iman. Please clarify above statement. If Allah does not send punishment to man (which I am recently beginning to believe), then who is/are the "sender" of trials and tribulations to test, purify, teach, elevate and strengthen as you indicated above? A part of me points at myself, my lower-self as the "cause". I'm not clear about your opinion, but am interested to know.kmaherali wrote: In my opinion trials and tribulations of which diseases are a facet, are sent to us to test, purify, teach, elevate and strengthen us. I am inclined to agree with you. The following are verses of Kalame Mowla which resonate this view.
jo taabe hove, aakharat sahee hove halaak;
ees manakaa kahyaa jo tu(n) maane, to tuje halaak kare e naapaak;
e man dushman hae ees mat naa chaalo, chalo jeeyu(n) hae hukam rab;
to dunee-aa deen sab bhalee ho-e, tumase bhaage buree balaa sab..53
When one surrenders to this enemy, his/her hereafter becomes ruined. If you follow such a lower self, then such an impure one will ruin you. This lower self is your enemy. Do not follow it. Follow what is commanded by the Lord, then your material and spiritual lives will all be prosperous and all the impurities and misfortunes will run away from you.
akalma(n)d dushman bee bhalaa usathee, jo dost hove annsamaj;
ke annsamaj dost-thee, bohot aazhaar paho(n)che tuj;
manvaa teraa tu(n) dost jaanne, pann e hae annsamaj nahee eese budh;
vae kaam karasee tu(n) pastaa-esee, chet sa(m)bhaall tu(n) apanee shudh.................54
An intelligent enemy is better than the a foolish friend. For the foolish friend brings a great deal of unhappiness in your life. You suppose that your lower self is your friend, but it is unintelligent and does not possess real intelligence(aqal) and wisdom. If it performs it's work on you, you will regret it. Therefore take heed and be in tune with real intelligence.

This is Imam SMS's experience. Not mine. I recommend everyone to read this particular page of "Memoirs" - page 307.from_Origin wrote:Dear KMaherali, may Mawla bless you with deep fortitude to overcome your physical difficulties and bless you with continued strength of Iman.
