special prayers for meals?

Are there any recomended prayers for us to recite prior to eating? Or just a simple thank you for this food would suffice?

In my opinion the essential prayer should be to express gratitude, the rest is all superfluous and secondary.

Ismailis of course express that gratitude in the form of mehmani (nandi).
