Agnostic trying hard to become a Murid Again

Post by shehzad-a »

Dear Friends,

I am a Ismaili by birth but an agnostic by my own choosing. I know there are many others like me, with no one to help them.

If the questions I had when I was young had been answered I might've still been a beleiver.

Now I look for answers on the Internet and in Books because my family are devout Ismailis and I do not want to hurt their feelings by openly discussing my faith(or lack of it!)

At the same time I do need help to reconcile my mind and heart so to speak. Is there anyone willing to help me?

The way I approach the topic is...first I must beleive in God and Prophet and in Islam and then in Ismailism and Immamat as a natural extenstion. Do you think this approach is correct?

PS: thank you Admin for the topic suggestion!

Hi,

One morning if you wake up with a feeling that this morning is good… it’s special… I think every morning is good and special it’s about our mood, it’s about our attitude how we look at it…

You are luck that you’re born in Ismaili family, you can go to Jamatkhana and you have people around to answer you….

First ask your self these questions why do you want to believe in God… why do you have this feeling today… what made you to think about God….. Believe is something individual anyone else can’t make you believe in God… Why do you want to believe in God first… where do you want to reach by your quest….

Almost all topics are discussed in Forum…. 1st decide what you are looking for….

2. If you are Ismaili then buy a curriculum books(Mysterious Universe & Early History) that will help.

3. Read Sultan Muhammed Shah Farman (1. Rohani Roshani, 2. Rohani Raaz)

4. Read Present Imam's Farmans & Ginan's Translations.

If there is a Will of Allah, you will get back to the straight path.

You cannot guide those you would like to, but Allah guides those He wills. He has best knowledge of the guided. (Surat al-Qasas, 28:56)

Dear Razi and Zubair,

thank you for your response. I want to beleive in God because I have a hunch, I am not an atheist.

For example lets take evolution vs creation. I know that the creation of the universe is too big a miracle to be an "accident"

I feel there are loopholes in the evolution theory - but maybe its becuase the theory is still being refined or maybe its because its completely false.

I also see contradictions in what we have been taught ... why was the universe and man created? for God's 'pehchan'?? that sounds like vanity to me(which God tells us is a vice).

The above questions are just one example. Oh and these are not questions that came to mind since the recent evolution vs. creation debate and the intelligent design theory...ive pondered over these for many years.

MHI tells us that there is no hocus pocus in relegion. I think that is brilliant. No other relegious leader can dare say that because they know their beleifs are inconsistent with logic!

I know that I am not alone in this, as our children grow up they will have to battle with these questions also - I hope there is open debate and people come forward to answer questions that can confuse us.

I know that for me there is light at the end of the tunnel. I know this because I am still searching for God.
PS: I have seen quite a few of Harun Yahya's movies, but not the one on reason. I will tonight. thanx :)

and thanx again for your response...hoping to get some more.

Dear Shehzad,

Your approach to faith is sound and based on personal search. In my opinion the best point to begin this would be Imam Sultan Muhammad Shah's chapter 'Islam the Religion of my Ancestors' in his Memoirs. Thia is an exposition of the Imam himself and targetting to essentially a Western audience. He has presented Islam in a very logical manner encapsulating some of the key philosophical, historical and mystical aspects of it. It can be accessed online at:

It is such a magical chapter and will address all your questions. I have reread it many times over and have always found something new in it. If you do have further questions after reading it, you may ask here.
