A part from the Memoirs of Aga Khan III

Post by faisall667 »

All my teaching and my guidance for my followers has been in fulfilment of this principle: render unto God the things which are God's and to Caesar those which are Caesar's.

Can someone explain this to me? Why was Caesar mentioned?

Thanks,

This expression is a summation of what the Imam said about loyalty to the country of adoption in the sentences immediately preceding it.

Because the 'Memoirs' was pitched at a Christian audience, the Imam has used expressions from the Christian tradition to convey the message and hence make himself more understandable. You will also note that he has used the experience of Christ to convey the meaning and significance of spiritual elevation.
